A Thrilling Experience
I couldn't believe that I really went for Hajj, thank Allah for that and all the stuff I heard about Hajj being difficult, and people suffering, no food etc, that is not true from my experience. I had all the help from alalaa. Food was in abundance, cold water and fruits. alalaa provided everything for us. Our hotel was so close to Haram, we hear Azan and we catch the prayer in time. AlhamduleLah I had an excellent Hajj this year with Alalaa Travel. I have chosen this company upon the recommendation of my wife who performed Hajj with them one year earlier. Its very reasonable price was also an important factor.
I was honored by several Umrahs and one visit to Medina in the past 30 years, somehow familiar by the town planning of both cities (specifically around the Harams areas), and I am a native speaker of Arabic. The package chosen was the “Express” package which started with Medina. The registration processes went ahead smoothly, uneventfully, and have found the company’s staff responsive to my emails and phone messages.
We were picked up from the Medina airport by the company’s representative and lodged in Marriott within less than 3 hours from landing. The Marriott Hotel was convenient and very close to the Haram. I met Wahid there for the first time—he came across to me as nice and friendly person. The room was very reasonable in size and facilities—the fact that the group that I was introduced to consisted of excellent Moslems from the Subcontinent helped no doubt. Food, breakfast and dinner buffet type, was also very good. Visit to Medina was simply excellent.
The travel from Medina to Mecca by bus was an issue to some. Although the distance is relatively short by North American standards it took eight hours due to the very heavy traffic and the several checking and administrative stops we had to make (a similar trip during the off-season would take around 4 hours). The bus seats were small (specifically, the legroom) was a cause of concern, perhaps justifiably so. My subsequent trips by buses operated by different operators during the trip revealed that this type of seating arrangement is quite systemic during Hajj, and cannot be mitigated without significant cost increase.
We arrived to Mecca and were lodged in Azzizia building for an overnight before we went to Menna. Accommodation in Azzizia—a fully dedicated building to Alaalaa Group-- was in apartments. Each apartment had 4 rooms sleeping 7 persons each (if fully occupied) which are served by two bathrooms and a kitchen. Of course, there were several dedicated apartments for sisters. The observation that each bathroom was effectively serving between 10 and 14 persons in two rooms caused initial concern. However, things were smoother and manageable, perhaps because of the excellent and wonderful spirit between the Hajjs (now literally of too many nationalities and backgrounds to count, it was amazing and wonderful really).
Movement from Azzizia to the Haram (say five miles as the crow flies) was by a dedicated bus that was supposed to perform several shuttle type trips a day. In reality that was not always the case, particularly in the outbound trip from El Haram back to Azzizia. I later learnt that it was not always possible for the bus to go back to the designated pickup area because the authorities had to change the traffic routes to improve the flow. Private taxis were available as an effective solution, albeit at an additional cost during a time in which Mecca’s population increases by 2.5 million persons. In reality, it was possible to visit the Haram for the Doher-Ishaa prayer period in one extended visit in most days. Of course, closer accommodation would have been much, much better; however, this would increase cost considerably. Alaalaa is advised to manage the expectations of the customers about Azzizia better (e.g., better information on the website). Finally, food in Azzizia—while not at par with the Marriott in Medina—was very adequate, and generous. Alaalaa junior staff (e.g., page boys) were helpful and pleasant.
Accommodation in Menna was in tents that were very adequate as focus was on performing the Hajj rituals as completely and accurately as possible. Food was okay, and hygiene facilities were two notches higher than “border line”, but then this is applicable to all Hajjs, and actually it is better for those who are coming from North America in comparison to others. Religious guidance to the group varied on linguistic and gender lines. Arabic speaking advisors were available at all times, and the two available Arabic guides were pleasant, erudite, and with a nice sense of humor (yes, it helps there too). My impression of the English speaking guides is also positive—cannot report on gender variation here. The importance of doing your own study and reading for duties and Manasek can not be more stressed here.
The movement from Menna to Arafat was an issue to some who reached there by noon time. I learnt later that other groups “commandeered” the busses away to their favor and to the determent of others. This action required “real-time” management to fend for the interest of the Group. However, Alaalaa staff was in Arafat cleaning the tents there from the impact of the heavy rain the night before. At that point, it was clear to me that the company was short staffed of a one extra capable field manager for such scenarios. Move to Mozdalefah was very effective and swift (perhaps as a compensation for the delay in Arafat). As for Jamarat, you do it on your own, usually as groups—then back to Azzizia.
Azzizia at the backend of the trip seemed more reasonable as people are more elated by completing the most important part of Manasek. Visiting the Haram remained an issue, and taking taxis, or even walking, became the norm, particularly in the way back from the Haram. Once you know what to expect, things become easier. Trip back to the US was very good. AlhamduleLah.
I do recommend this company no doubt. There is room for improvement, but then a lot of the above issues are real-time problems resulting from a very fluid situation in the context of serving millions upon millions of visitors that descend on the place within a very short time. Hajj is a wonderful and necessary trip for all capable Muslims. It is physically demanding and tests ones patience and endurance—but then the rewards are magnificent. Alaalaa helped and facilitated it no question—at full par with companies significantly more expensive than it. If it manages its customers’ expectations better and increases the number of its field managers by one more person, my rating would go from 4 and a half stars to five no question. Job well done Alalaa Travel. Hajj Mabroor to all.

My experience and previous comment
I don’t know, who wrote the previous review. However, I disagree with this person completely. The previous reviewer said that, he was told about Aziziah before the reservation. Pardon me that I disagree, but, nowhere in Alalaa website advertisement says about Azizia. I paid about $6500, but I had to stay in Azizia, which Wahid never told me before the money was paid.
I am also surprised seeing the comment from previous user about “some of my friend went with other groups and they was on the street with no hotels”. Sir: please be realistic when you a make comment. Anybody who see your comment like this will just laugh, laugh and laugh. Who are you by the way?

my main goal was to preform hajj in good way ,alhamdulillah i did with alalaa .first my hotels was the same i was told about. also about azizia i was told about it. i remember the brother told me and my family about all most important things, Hilton tower in markka with breakfast and dinner Marriott hotel in Medina with breakfast and dinner the bus from makkah to Medina and back was very good bus . i was in arafat at 12noon . our people was the first group to leave from Arafat to muzdalifah . from what i see i think all main things was there for us . plus the flights very good and almost on time . finally i like to say thank you very much for alalaa to make me preform hajj and come back home safe because i see some of my friend went with other groups and they was on the street with no hotels what so ever and they paid more then me way more.

Very bad company
Things that I expected and was not there:
Paid for Express Package with 2 people per room. Stayed with 2 people in Medina for 3 days. But stayed with 5 person in room in Mekkah
Paid for Hotel in Mekkah (90 yards from Haram). No hotel was given in Mekkah. Accommodation was in Aziziah. This is my biggest complain that, I couldn’t offer more pray in Haram
No help for religious question. There we no religious scholar accompanying the team and neither any religious session with the team.
Transportation from Aziziah and Haram was extremely poor. Only 3-4 one way transportation was given per day. Return trip was mostly by Taxi.
Wahid was extremely un-cooperative and very difficult to get a hold off.

I did not get what I paid for
There are many other Hajj and Umrah travel agents who charge even less and provide at least the basic most essential needs like soap in the bathroom and transportation for prayers. We did not expect VIP treatment but we certainly expected that our essential needs will be fulfilled. Alalaa "building" in Mecca was too far from Mecca - 30 minutues ride to Haram if we were lucky to find Alalaa mini van or bus. Most of the time the transportation to Haram was not available from Alalaa and we had to pay 20 to 50 Rayals each way. There were no towels or soap for washing hands in the Alalaa building. Toilet seats were broken. Nobody was cleaning the trash from the rooms or toilets. Nobody from Alalaa was communicating with hajis about the next day's program - it was really up to Hajis to find the owner (who was not present most of the times) and ask him questions. Brother Waheed, you need to communicate with your group on a daily basis during Hajj !!! |

You get what you pay for
Alhamdo-Lillah - that's what a muslim is supposed to say even after a bad experience - as everything happens from the will of Almighty. Despite numerous negatives, I cannot bad mouth too much because this was one of the cheapest packages around. My goal was to keep our Hajj trip as basic as possible, as less luxurios as possible, as challenging as possible. That's why I selected Alalaa. I am glad that they met my expectations. No pain no gain. Harder it is to do the Hajj, bigger the rewards. I did not want VIP treatment so I cannot complaint either. |

He made us stay in a private home in makkah which was far away from Haram,
he was not providing transporttation to Haram as promised .Coach used to go to drop people in haram few times and was not going back to pick them up.After waiting for hours people have to go back by taxi ,many were lost on the way and have to walk miles.Food was only seved two tims a day and only one item.Food was handeled by teen agers ,who were even found eating in the tray before serving.Building was full of flies.Five people were staying in one room.In mina about 50 people were staying in one tent, matteresses were very smal and there was no space betweeb each mattress to walk.They took us to arafat round 3 Pm because they have no busses,people thought they will miss their Hajj some of them were thinking to hire a taxy but taxy was not available.There were cockroaches under every mattres in Mina.There was no arrangement for tea or cold water in mina ,arafat,and muzdalifa.bathrooms were filthey and showers were over toilets.I will recomend go any one else but not this company.we heared many wives crying and yelling on their husbands for selecting this company.No moalam was available even owner was only showing up once a while,he was hiding most of times.I heard people saying openly to him as acrook.Some people were not saying anything because he was hoding their passports.
Over all instead of doing Hajj we came back with bad memories and experience in makkah. |

Beware
People who travelled with this agency last year are still trying to get partial refund for the money spent. After month of back and forth with Waheed and Taha (the real owner of All Star - This would be the name on your passport for travel agency not Al-Alaa), They have now agreed to return some amount for all the trouble and services not provided including the days that were missed. Here are a few fact for Hajj 2008..
- They didn't file for visas until the very last week even though they had our passports for over a month. Waheed did that to make sure that visas are not issued on time resulting in late travel which would eventually result in fewer dates in Makkah and fewer days in hotel which saves money for him. For us, it was two days but there were people in our group who missed at least three.
- As soon as we paid money, the attitude and tone of their voice changed completely. Ahmed is the most horrible person I have seen in my life. I saw him yelling at Hajis many many times.
- Waheed provided buses that were junk. He would disapear for days without telling anyone. At Mina, he left without making anyone responsible for food and one of the Haji has to take care of it.
- Waheed didn't complete his work in Madina and we had to overstay one night in Madina due to that. Waheed asked everyone to pay extra $40 for that making us believe that he was doing it since a few of us wanted to stay in Madina longer.
- Waheed booked airline tickets within US completely separate from international travel. As a result, a lot of people who missed their connections due to Royal Jordanian being late, had to pay as much as $800 per person to fly from JFK to their hometowns.
- While it was promised, no Ihram, litrature or anything was provided as part of the package.
- No direction to Hajees on what to do where to go. You left US, you are on your own.
- A transportation that was promised during our stay in Aziziah, was not provided. We had to spend hundreds of dollars to go back and forth to Haram.
- Only one ziarat in Madinah and no ziarat in Makkah.
I think this should be plenty of information for you to make an informed decision but the list is longer. |

AlHamdullah, may Allah bless you with hajj for this year. I recommend Alaa hamala. Some few heads up:
Pros: 1===5 min. walking distance from AlHaram at the first few days in Makka and excellent food service.Hilton Tower 2====10 walking distance from alHaram in AlMadeena and the food is great, even the hotel was only okay.
3====Food was great in Mina and Arafa.
Cons: 1=====The instructions about the Umrah and Hajj was in ElMadeena and should be right after reaching Makka. This thing can be modified.
2====Buses should be checked, maintained, and cleaned prior to use since we lost many hours with switching buses.
3====In Minna, the tent should not have many people. The space for each person should be more than a sleeping bag and we brought our owns. this also can be modified, hopefully. Some people from different countries got in the tent and stayed with us when it was already crowded. This also can be modified.
4=====Transportation were not provided from the Al-Azezeyh building to Alharam regularly. This can be also modified. |

I would definitely use Alalaa again
This 2008 Hajj was my first and feel lucky I chose Alalaa. all that was written in the package was right. The owner of the co accompanied the group and attended personally to the Hojaj requests. Some complained about the buses being old and not perfectly airconditioned. Considering the money paid for this Hajj , I think it was very adequate. Some complained about the food. At Sheraton, 30 yards from Qabaah we had open buffet breakfast and dinner , lots of great food.At Medinah Corum 90 yrads from Masjed Alrasoul, same arrangement for food, it is true less varities but more than adequate and guests were served very cuteously. A Hajjah fell sick and the owner asked the group if they want to spend another night till the hajjah feels better for travel. Very considerate. Accommodation at Mena was very reasonable and packaged meals were provided 3 times a day. The leaders and the Sheikh who accompanied the Hojaj were very helpful .On Eid's 2nd day we were served a whole cooked lamb for dinner. A nice jest. The last day I was late to go back to the bus taking the group to the airport and was very worried , but was not reprimanded luckily.As requested I proceeded to Cairo to visit family as per my ticket, and all what was arranged took place as best as it could be. The package was cheaper than other cos' but the service was great and I did not meet any of the complaints that other Hojaj found with their packages. I wish I can go once more and definitely with Alalaa.I recommend this service to any sister or brother and taqabal Allah from all. |

Only thing i say is i hope that god will forgive this compnay and the owner ( waheed) . i think the only thing he did not lie about was his name !! and maybe this is a lie too. !! ask himn about the following
A transportation!! private or public .. He uses trasg busess and they are public unlike what he say on his web site..
b Hotels and how many people stay in each room.. all are 4 and 3 stars . no inter and not hilton (he uses the towers and it is 4 not 5) also he puts 4 in each room.. in madina the hotel is 3 and its not the inter..
c tents and the food served ,, tents have not bedding and you get pubilc food..
d who are the Tour people that will be helping you,, he has nothing to do with you once you get to mecca or madina ,, he has no one to help or show youanything,,
e tell him you need a speak with few of the hajjs that went with him in o8!! he will not give you a number and he will ance around it !! ask for three or four people to talk to..
all what waheed tell you is a lie about everything... he gives you the answer that he wants you to hear and then you will find it is all is a lie.
all the reviews that are good are mabe writtten by him... because i do not think anyone will ever tell you he has done what he was suppose to do.
I feel bad writting this review, but also I want my brothers to know what to expect andalso when one lies to you at hajj ,, then we need to tell him what he did wrong and advise him to fear god.. and respect hajj.

airport miseries
When we reached Jeddah airport no one was there to greet us from this group. After 5 hours of waiting as a group, men in our group arranged for transportation to Mekkah. No Sheikh accompanied the group. No ziayarahs in Medinah. On our way back to Jeddah airport, we missed our flight to Amman. This happened due to sleep and complacency of Mr. Abdulwaheed. We should have left at 9pm o catch 9 am flight next day, instaed we left at 6 am. On jEddah airport u need to be there at least 10 hours prior to the flight. Allthough Mr.Abdul Waheed was with us, we all had lost trust in him. He told us at one point that it could even be two days at airport. From 9 am until 2 am the next day we were on jeddah airport not knowing when will we be leaving for Amman. We missed all our connecting flights. He had promised for Amman tour and collected 20 dollars from each person. We never got to that tour,and we never got our money back. He has an attitude and escapes difficult situations, does not accept his fault. Arrogant man. |

me and my family went to hajj 2008 khan family from n.y city the trip was very good and for the guy he mention mattress i never been promised for mattress and blanket in mina i looked over the item alalaa promised us they never mention any mattress but they still provide blanket i remember alot of blanket all over our tent. if i was looking for top luxury i woud pick apackage for 9000$ and up . but alhamdullah i had a very good package for 5300$.

great job
The best of all my 7 Hajj trips
I went with several companies before, but this was the best. The food, the arrangement, the movement of buses, the comfort and facilities, the extra services we get free . brother wahed seems to know everybody, and everybody likes him. He speaks Arabic and English fluently and gave us religious instructions. He explained the rites of Hajj and all the rules & regulations. We were happy. We even paid less than what previous groups charged us. I recommend ALALAA Hajj to anyone who wants peace of mind. The only problem I noticed is that some people the flight are late, but this is not ALALAA fault. brother wahed had his employees with us at all airports never left alone.

AGAIN AVOID
Do not under any circumstances book your travel with this group. They are simply out to make money and do not care about making this a memorable experience for their haji's. The package cost me nearly as much as some others were offering (such as at SuperHajj.com). The buses were horrible every single time - no leg room at all , even for someone 5'6" tall. The bus ride from Makkah to Madinah took us 8 hrs and the ride back took us 16 hours while other groups offered flights for their people. When we got to Makkah we were left all to ourselves - no guidance, nothing. As a first time visitor, it was very overwhelming to go out and do the Umrah by ourselves - luckily we found some nice people who were traveling with us that we could stick with. That was pretty much the trend, he'd bring you to a location and dump you there, with no help or anything. Communication was horrible. They had no idea when we were going somewhere or when we were leaving. I came from a different city so I agreed to pay them nearly twice the going rate for a flight to NYC and guess what? it was book as a completely separate itinerary and with only a 3 hour layover at NYC for an international flight! Wahid lied to us in Jeddah saying our flight was leaving on time when we were infact leaving on a later flight. This caused us to leave Amman 8 hours late and I missed my connection flight in NYC. We were stranded at NYC at the mercy of the airlines who did not want to help us. Royal Jordanian refused to help saying I missed a Delta flight and Delta refused to help saying I got there late due to a different airline. The camps in Mina were easily 5 miles away from Jamarat. The food was the same over and over. The hotel in Madinah was suppoised to be 5 star but can only be described as a 2 star. There were several other people in our group who missed their connections and were stranded. The Royal Jordanian rep at the Jeddah airport claimed it was due to Wahid changing the flight beforehand - something he denied - we don't know what the truth is. When we were in Aziziah there was very little help in getting to Haram. We spent a lot of money in taxis to get there and back. The original package was supposed to be 6 nights in Makkah but he only had us there 4 nights, saving him even more money. We paid 250$ pp extra to have dinner when it turns out everyone gets dinner. We got our tickets and passport just 3 days before we were supposed to leave!! That gave us no time to make any changes as they claim on their website. Bottom line - DO NOT travel with this agency. |

i think my trip was very good . i start with 6 hours delay at jfk but i knew its not alalaa fault.brother ahmed was with us all the time from jfk until the hotel in mccah . the hotels was good hotels ,the food was in makkah great but in madinah good in minah we were promised one light meal but we got 3 meals
from minah to arafat we got there by 9 am ,i saw some other groups got there after noon time also from arafat to muzdalifa we got there 2hours after mughrab .
the azyziah building was good we have a bus to take us from there to haram
my flight on the way back on time
at the end i agree this is not vication trip its hajj trip so for the money i paid for this trip i got back the service i want.
i saw some friend with other groups paid more than me and didnot get the same service ihad,so we have to understand and be truthfull.
from the point i saw things i think hajj very hard to arrange ,from that point i can say thank you brother wahed and brother ahmed for all the things you arranged and done for the group. |

These are absolutely the worst people to go to Hajj with. We just came back from Hajj a couple of days ago. This was my first time and I would ask everyone to stay away from these people. Brother Waheed, Ahmed and others who were suppose to be responsible for their group, didn't know themselves what was going on. Waheed would disappear for days and Hajees were on their own. Ahmed would yell at hajees in response to any questions that were asked. They really held us like prisnors and treated us very bad. In addition, there was absolutely no communication. They were changing things on the fly trying to cut corners and save money. Any positive remarks in this forum are entered by Waheed or his partners. At the end of our journey everyone was taking email addresses from each other so we could figure out a way to inform as many people as possible to stay away from this agency. |

Very good price when comapred with Darel Salam for same service.
This group does give an excellent price for its services. For example;
Hotels in Makkah and Madinah were excellent. Hilton in Makkah and Intercontinental in Madinah. I had heard wonderful things about the Darel salam group but their price to deliver those same services is very high. Also I wanted it simple in Mina, i inetntionally avoided sofas and big buffets that come in package with Darel Salam. So personally i enjoyed staying on the carpet in Mina. I will suggest though to take a thin foam mattress, as dust gets on carpet very easily. Another feature of Azizia building while you stay in Mina is excellent one with this group. Darel Salam provides it with only high payment groups. We went there for showers, to rest, and did all shopping and packing from that building. It is a good building this group has inAzizia.
Also about buses , service was just excellent. Buses (actually all of them in Saudi Arabia) are comfortable, wide leg space and airconditioned. We were never late with Alala. One thing i would like to warn about buses. Though it is not fault of al-alaa or any group. But bus drivers are hired, by Saudi government and are over worked. So when we were coming back from Madina to Makkah it was night time, and in comfortable AC bus everyone started falling asleep. I noticed that sometimes bus driver is not paying attention and bus is not going straight. Then few other Hajis also noticed this as well. So we kept our driver awake. We asked him to stop and take coffee and cigarette. He told us that he has not slept in three days and has to drive a lot. His eyes were red with lack of sleep. So we decided to turn lights on, in our bus, recite Quran loudly and later kept talking to him. So no matter which group you go with please make sure that your driver is well rested, and is awake. Sleepy driving is extremely dangerous. I also suggest to take positive attitude with you. If you see things positively then you will have a good time. Weather was so good in December in Haram. So if negative thoughts come, distract yourself with positive ones. Usually your fellow Hajis are so helpful and nice. In our group Alalaa, we had people from Egypt, Nigeria, Morrocco, Pakistan, India, SriLanka, Senegal. Ofcourse all of us from US. I learnt a lot. I was lucky to have a sister who was an Islamic school teacher and she was always inspiring us with Quran,tajwed, salat, fiqh, and she became our teacher during Hajj. Arabs definitely have an advantage. If Alalaa can arrange an English speaking Imam and classes about hajj and spirituality to inspire all. Then this will make this group really the best. Even if they increase price a little to pay the Muallim. As with Darelsalam they have many Muallims. We also had a large Bosnian subgroup with their own Imam. When u will be there ,all u will do is to thank Allah SWT. You will definitely pray for travel agency who got u there safely. Hajj is much easier than I thought before my Hajj experience. |

Response to the writer of airport miseries
Overall brother Waheed did a good job, when it came to keeping his promises. He never promised for Makkah ziyarat in his package. We did go in Medinah for ziyarat as he promised.We stayed in hotels he said, and Aziziyah stay was also satisfactory. I agree with the writer about confusion at airport both at arrival and leaving at Jeddah airport. But people of only one specific subgroup had that experience.Other groups with brother Waheed had no problems at airport. About writer's comment on jordan sight seeing money collection. He returned money to those who asked for it at Jordan airport. When he canceled Jordan sightseeing as flight was delayed. But if someone did not ask him their money of only 20 dollars back, they can not blame him. Since this was done in the bus and no one was writing this amount. As we trusted his honesty in all other services we had seen. I will say that he did a good job, but our group had a test from Allah SWT on returning to Jeddah airport. I will recommend this travel agency, but will say that Brother Waheed needs more people to answer questions of a large group. Also a Muallim who speaks English will be a good addition. Another very good service was the buses were so efficient between Arafat and Mina and muzdalifah. We were never late, we never waited hours in the bus. |

airport miseries
When we reached Jeddah airport no one was there to greet us from this group. After 5 hours of waiting as a group, men in our group arranged for transportation to Mekkah. No Sheikh accompanied the group. No ziayarahs in Medinah. On our way back to Jeddah airport, we missed our flight to Amman. This happened due to sleep and complacency of Mr. Abdulwaheed. We should have left at 9pm o catch 9 am flight next day, instaed we left at 6 am. On jEddah airport u need to be there at least 10 hours prior to the flight. Allthough Mr.Abdul Waheed was with us, we all had lost trust in him. He told us at one point that it could even be two days at airport. From 9 am until 2 am the next day we were on jeddah airport not knowing when will we be leaving for Amman. We missed all our connecting flights. He had promised for Amman tour and collected 20 dollars from each person. We never got to that tour,and we never got our money back. He has an attitude and escapes difficult situations, does not accept his fault. Arrogant man. |
